240 lets me down for the first time!

Sorry to hear your story, Ian. By the way, if you're running a B2xxF engine I would suspect the CrankPositionSensor (on top of clutchbell housing) to be faulty; I was told they just go after 100.000 miles, and my went at 99.000 miles! Hope you get the car going soon, Chris

In the event that it's a B200 injection mine suffered from a screen leak which kindly allowed water to dribble down the fuse box thus corroding the contacts & causing a similar fault (unfortunatly whilst wifey was driving it so much grief!). Cheers, Steve.

Dribbling water also corroded up the connections in the last - but one - terminal block leading to my crankshaft sensor.

If the crank position sensor is the same on a later 240 as it is on a later 740, it might respond to having its bulkhead wiring connection disconnected, sprayed with WD-40 and reconnected. Might be a good idea to do the same with the power stage (ignition amplifier) as well :)

Cleaning the power stage connection worked for me. Or perhaps it was the new fuel pump relay (which I fitted a couple of days later)? :)

while your under there with a small wire brush or wire wool etc.. clean, or at least check all the wiring related to ignition stuff and any other connections that catch your eye.

As I was leaving for work this morning (in the 760) I thought that I would try starting the 240. The starter whirred and it fired up and ran! It seemed to run OK but as it fired up I heard a weird metallic 'clang' from the engine compartent - very difficult to describe. What on earth can that be? Anyway, I thought I wouldnt risk taking it to work so will try starting it again when I get home this evening. I cant ever recall a noise like that from any of the cars Ive owned!
