or the big 5 or big 6 if we include cce and scenarist or big 7 if we include ifoupdate ;) It's just a name people and I would refer to it as a method rather then a bunch of tools.

dvd2svcd does main movie only backups. So, if you want a main movie only backup tool for DVD-R, you already have it. It is called .... drumroll please .... dvd2svcd. Just set it to dvd output and you're all set. It's just as easy, but requires Scenarist to author the disc. Alternative, there's dvd2dvd-r which does the same but can also use ifoedit for authoring (with all the problems that involves - NTSC titles with pulldown get out of synch).
