MIDI loses assignment (SOLVED)

Weird thing. When in playback mode, I can assign a midi track to a general midi sound. But if I restart playback, the midi track loses the sound I assigned, and instead plays the string sound (which I think is embedded in the .mid file). At that point i can reassign the midi sound i want, and it sticks only until i restart playback. then it reverts to its original string sound. help?

I assume there are program change events in your MIDI file that make your instrument switch to that sound on start. Open the items in the MIDI editor and create a controller lane with the parameter "Bank/Program" by clicking on the plus in the velocity lane and choosing from the dropdown. Then you can see and delete the unwanted MIDI events or change their value, so you get the sound you want to hear (in case you want to export the MIDI and listen to it on a MIDI file player or something).

Thanks! I was able to fix it, not by creating a new controller lane, as you suggested, but by clicking View Menu> Mode:event List, in the midi edit.
