Ground Loops and Hum

Does anyone have the following problem: If I use a splitter to send my guitar signal into 2 amps, to get a fatter tone, then I get a lot of hum, whereas I get none if I use either amp standalone. My problem is even worse, because I use a switching system that sends the signal to 2 different guitar amps, plus a clean signal to a DI into PT and AmpliTube. But a soon as a split the signal to 2 or 3 output amps, I get hum. I tried connecting all the main power plugs into the same socket, to no avail. What else can I do?

lift the ground on one of your amps. if the amp does not have a switch, you can use an adapter on the electrical plug. you know, the little gray adapter you use when the outlet doesnt have a ground plug available.

try lifting ALL of the grounds. (Including your comp, and ENTIRE front end). Get an isolated (transformer coupled) splitter. ProCO has a pretty good 4 line splitter rack mount - pretty cheap.

Isn't it unsafe to do that? Risk of electrocution, etc?

It can be dangerous and I don't recommend it. Are your splitters active or passive.

My splitters are active I suppose, as I use an electronic switching/splitting system called SwitchBlade. This is their website.

They are available at every hardware store,and in the real audio world,they are a must have. sometimes that eliminates the hum.somtimes connecting an external ground from one piece of gear to another. If your really worried about the danger,dont lick another tube amp while your checking to see if the ground lift adapter eliminates the humm/buzz
