Blue smoke

Hi all, I have a '99 V40 t4 auto, under load 75mph+ up hills I get light blue exhaust smoke. apart from that she runs smooth, quiet very fast , plenty of power and performance and all vital signs are good. have checked all turbo hoses pipes for splits holes etc, seem to be ok not compression checked yet. any suggestions to what can be the cause, fix solution..??? thanks Pml

thanks,Had a little advice from someone today, there are no exhaust emissions coming from the oil filler when engine running, as you would expect if it was rings, no smoke under about 3000rpm, even then only a bad puff when turbo is fully charged and then not so bad again, I am now begining to suspect turbo a little more, also as there is no loss of power under load what-so-ever only smoke, I am begining to think that the compression test will be ok when I have it done next Tuesday, if this is the case then I may just change my oil to 15/40 and then even the Turbo and check it out then, I have Turbo with ceramik bearings that I can fit instead should be more durable anyway. the quest goes on Pml

Sounds like exactly the problem i was having on my 940 turbo auto. (although mines was much worse!!) - The problem was a knackered turbo!!! - A quick way of checking was to take the IC pipe off the turbo and check the shaft for fore and aft play, a sure sign of wear and oil getting past the seals.

thanks for that, yes its looking that way, this turbo went on not so long ago and unfortunately although it was used it looked fine impellars were in good nick and no play in shaft but I suppose you never can tell.. time to change for the ceramik one I think. cheers pml
