Tinny/Plate Noise when recording

I've just started using Reaper - I've been a Cakewalker since they first got into audio, but can't keep forking over the $$$$$. Problem is that when I record a vocal, the playback sounds like I have applied a plate effect (little flangy/tinny.) I used Windows sound recorder and didn't detect anything unusual there. Any thoughts? (Windows Vista64, Echo Mia)

First off,Welcome to Reaper! How were the vocals recorded? Did they sound alright when you laid them down? Do you have the mono button checked on the Master? One more thing,You used windows sound recorder to do what? Record or playback? Bardo

It sounds like you are recording the sound you are monitoring. that would mean you are getting the delayed monitor signal as well as the direct signal. If you are using a mixer or similar outboard gear check how you have it set up.

Make sure you are in normal Record (input) mode - not recording output! While record armed, click the "in" button to the left of the track meter & make sure it's set to "Record Input" Also note that if you have "monitor input" on you will hear a slight delay while recording (depending on your soundcard buffer).

Recorded from mic to Mackie mixer to Echo Mia. I have set master to mono and it doesn't make any difference. I recorded something with Windows Sound Recorder and played it back with WMP - haven't figured out how to get a WMA into Reaper yet.

Does muting the input monitoring on your sound-card help?

I did exactly what Tedwood described a while back and got this tinny sound. Turned out I set up the mixer in the wrong way as I basically got feedback (sound into mixer-> soundcard in, ->soundcard out, -> mixer,-> soundcard in, etc) then recorded that. With the press of a button, as if by magic, I got nice recordings again :)
