Open midi-stuff in external editor

I want to open track-midi in finale notepad, from inside Reaper. How do I do it?

In Reaper preferences, there's a section called "external editors", Just add the path there.

well, since this is the noobsection and it isn't working when I do it, may I ask for a silly walkthrough:)

thanx for the help but no go here. maybe I'll just wait for the answer to sometime pop up in the forum where I'm sure it already has. I hate being a newbie.

The lower part shows Reaper's preferences -> External Editors, the upper part shows how to apply those in using the Editor. (You will not see all those windows at the same time in Reaper. I've overlayed them for convenience) Michael

Thank you, MichaJo! That's very generous of you making art for me and other noobs. What I had missed was that when I did it, I wrote ".mid" instead of "mid". It's the little things, right?;)

I've asked this question on another thread: but since this thread was so useful, I thought I'd post it here as well. "After a little tweaking (mainly hardware and interface tweaking), I was able to get Evan's idea working pretty well with Finale 2008. The only problem is that each midi track opens as its own file (which is obvious since each midi segment is saved independently to the project folder). Does anyone know how to consolidate these into one finale window (i.e. one score)? If this external editor function works with multiple tracks from a reaper project, then I think we'll have a sufficient work around for anyone who needs a score editor." I'd appreciate any sort of help you can lend.
