2.5 20v Petrol Engine Oil Leak ??

My trusty 850 appears to have developed an oil leak. Oil is appearing on top of the engine on. It appeared to be coming from the oil filler cap, but I am not sure. Yesterday I clean the engine down and then used the car for about 20 miles or so, and checked again to find the top of the engine covered in oil again. There appears to be a small pipe going under the plate of the plugs, could this be the cause? If so is it an easy fix... I am not mechanically minded but can do the basics. If not the this pipe any other suggestions/thoughts. Thanks Dec

Hi, Deos the 2.5 20v engine have a breather system which can block like the 940. This could cause the oil leak. ivor940

Pop into Your local volvo dealer on monday and get a new seal for the oil cap. Worked a treat on mine.

i would say it was the oil filler cap seal also

Having braved the cold, I've taken the cover off the top of the plugs, and clean off as much of the oil as I could and the oil must (!!) be coming from the filler cap. I pay a trip to the dealer in the morning, and hopefully that will be that. Thanks for the help.

dipstick test is easy...lift it out slightly and see if smoke is coming from it at idle...after letting it warm up a bit.
