I want to record drums in a special way...can this be done ?

I have a virtual drumkit(using shortcircuit 1) which I play via MIDI in Reaper 4. Followed by a ReaDelay in the FX chain for that track, with feedback set to 0dB (generating an infinite beat loop). Now I want to do this: I wish to play MIDI notes (while the sequencer is still stopped) UNTIL I like what I hear. I then release all keys on my MIDI keyboard. NOW I want to record the audio of my what I hear. But all I get is an empty audio item. I know I can play MIDI notes, triggering my drumkit, WHILE the sequencer is running/recording. This, of course, yields a proper audio item. But I want to do it the way I described above. Is this possible, and if yes, which routing do I have to set up (I already tried various combinations) ?

I tried this already. It didn't work. Do I perhaps need to route the Master Track output back into a regular track ?

Well, you should maybe have one track for midi, and one for audio. So Tr1: Armed, input midi, monitor on Tr2: Shortcircuit, delay, armed, record audio output You'l have to send the midi from tr1 to tr2 (send, midi, all)

Doesn't work either. I guess I'll just have to start recording, THEN play notes. This I tested and it works. Well, that method is needed in my case... Thanks to all.
