What to buy...Dual 867 used or new 1.25 ghz

Wait for the G5 you will not be disappointed.

If I wanted to buy a G5, I would wait ( I work at a Mac dealer), but it is the dual boot (OS 9 and OS X) machine I am after. Please if any of you hav ehad postive/negative experiences with either model, I would love to know.

I'm pretty sure that the 1.25 single would be a lot faster. In the case of Propellerhead products at least, the second processor only handles display graphics. Anyone know if this is also the case for ProTools? If it is, then a second processor would only speed up your overall performance by a small margin, nothing like actually doubling your speed because of the second processor.

Is upgrading the 9600 to a G4 out of the question? (800 Mhz for $300). Firewire/USB2/ATA card for $180 (sonnet tempo trio). Why bother with the choices you listed? Pick a speed (Mine is 3 gighz), Pick a price (mine is $1800) and wait for the market to MEET THE PRICE (mine will about Feb 2004 for my G5). I can still run a lot of stuff on my computer. Read Macworld "building a clone" in current issue. Hope this helps/

The question is: do you want to use ProTools 6 ? If you want to run on Jaguar, I think that the dual may be the solution. Someone can complement my saying...please!

I will be running a MX cubed with Pro-tools 5.1.3 and Protools 6, in both OS 9 and OS X. The 9600 was upgraded several years ago to a G3 500. I will still keep it, kinda rotating it out, and getting rid of a non-upgraded 9600 that I rarely use since its Pro-tools now runs in a chassis attached to a Ti-book. I will be selling an old nubus TDM system in a 7100/G3 as well. Its a great little system, but no digital picture, which I use alot these days.

what kind of price were you looking for a duel 867? I have one in studio b . I may sell it.
