Best Vocal Mic recommendations........

if you really need one get a NT-1, no comparison for it's price. but i'd suggest you forget about recording if you're borderline homeless, it's a neverending money pit. sorry if it sounds depressing, but i'm curious how many of you guys aren't in the red from recording gear and have actually made more profit from your gear than spent

The Oktavia's wary A LOT in quality. If you get a good one they sound great if you don't they're not that brilliant. I agree with the choice of the NT-1 but if you could find the extra dollars the NT-2 i definitely worth it. There is a marked difference from the NT-1 and it's still competatively priced. I would stay away from the cheaper AKG's - they have a very pronounced upper mid which can sound quite hard on some material. Now, if you could find a cheap second hand Neumann TLM-103.... :-)

Stretch your budget (like the others said, its a feeling you should get used to) Buy a KSM32. I love my NT1's, I have four of them but for the money as the only all arounder the ksm32 is hard to beat. If you just cant do $500 then the NT1 is a first choice unless you already have a problem with brightness or have a noisy recording environment (it has a very wide almost omni pattern to it) then Id get a CAD E100 for $229 from musicians friend. ------------------ Frost Owner Narnia Studios

RODE NT-1. Unbeatable for the money and sounds warmer than the more expensive NT-2. Also, if you ever get the Antares mic modeler (great plugin) the NT-1 is perfect for capturing your source sounds as it has a nice flat response. NT-1 also sounds fantastic for acoustic guitar. Really big sound.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but if you have a good source mic then it is worth using. I used to use it with an AKG c1000s which wasn't so good. I suppose it depends on how good the Antares model is for your particular mic. Also it is good to use as a nice valve stage.
