explode multichannel to separate tracks Nitpick

this feature eats hard drive space. in the case of 'exploding' a stereo track to two mono tracks (LOVE THIS FEATURE!,) wouldn't it be a lot more reasonable to simply reference the original stereo file with the two new tracks? this seems like the most economical means of accomplishing the same job. well, at least economical on the end users HD space. keep up the amazing work!

The problem with this I see is that you would not be able to edit, since the file is the "read only". Hard drive space is cheap nowadays. ~Rob.

is that really true? every audio file you pull up when opening a digital audio project is read only in a non-destructive editor, is it not? hard drive space is cheap, but economics are what give reaper all its best qualities! smaller, faster, and even less costly to license! its all just numbers. i think if you want to have an extra copy of those numbers, you should have the option to create them, but there is no need to make a redundant copy when the first copy can be referenced instead. all you have then is a change in the gui instead of the addition of superfluous data. no?
