using inserts with 001

i'm trying to use inserts to hook up my rnc. something really weird happens. when i initialize an insert, say i/o #3 on a bass track, all i get is the metronome sound. how is this possible? i want to be able to use the rnc as an insert on mono tracks and possible the stereo bus. are outputs 3-8 inserts? i thought they were.

Hello, This is how you should configure your device as a analog hardware insert within Pro Tools. -Connect an unused output (or pair if sending a stereo signal) of the Digi001 to the inputs of the EFX unit. -Connect the output (or pair if sending a stereo signal) of the EFX unit to unused inputs of the Digi001 I/O box. PLEASE NOTE: In order for this to work, you must use the same input/output pair of the Digi001 (i.e. outputs 5/6 and inputs 5/6). - If you want to use the device to process the entire mix, create a master fader and instantiate a Hardware Insert on the track (from the Inserts>I/O submenu) which corresponds to the input/output pair to which the external unit is attached.
