Joz, I use the Great River MP-2NV and love it for most things. More headroom than the BA units and based on the Neve 1073. It is great for warming things up yet it can add a very punchy aggressive sound that I like. You really owe it to yourself though to check out the API 3124. API makes some of the best. If you go into the highest quality studios you are almost guaranteed to see an API unit in the rack. That thing is nothing short of incredible and comes with 4 pres. BA also carries vintage API units but I think I'd stick with their new stuff. Here is some listening tests for you to check out. Have fun, Allen

wow! the 3124! i've had and LOVED a 3124(M) since 1994. i can't recommmend it enough. faster than a Neve but slower and sloppier than a Focusrite ISA115. beautiful on guitar if you've recorded neve drums but not as sharp as a 550. all very good music production tools, mind you. depends what you like, i guess. this is a very subjective bussiness.

I just bought a dual Brent Averill 1272. I'm really happy so far, but I need to test it on more things. Can't wait. And since I live in L.A I went to the guys shop, and he was really nice to give me a discount. Joz

Im surprised nobody has mentioned the AMEK stuff. I LOVE the 9098, and it comes in three flavors - w/eq, w/o/eq, w/eq/comp/dees.... Fell in love with that piece the first time I heard it...
