Looking for proven soft synth

Hmmm, lets see: Digidesign SSC $300 and 3 or so really nice sample libraries = $900 ballpark. Then, with every $100 to 200 additional sample library you buy, you get tons of new sounds, basically infinitely expandable with the size of your wallet being the only deciding factor. If you don't have a keyboard, throw in a FATAR or Evolution MIDI synth action keyboard controller for less than $100. --OR-- Hardware Synth with high quality samples (what did you have in mind?) at LEAST $1000 ( and I suspect more for something that has really nice sampled sounds), and probably wont have the same expansion options. For what you want SSC will do it cheaper AND more realistically than a synth and it'll be in the PT environment for you. I second the motion to look at SSC.

Thanks guys. I guess when you put the costs that way it's a good deal. I was looking at the new SY series synths from Yamaha. I will start researching SSC. Reason from Propellerhead sounds like more of a headache to get going side-by-side with PT, but it seems pretty bitchin'. Lots of stuff in one app for cheap.

But remember SSC will take a chunk of your CPU's power. Will you be able to run PT an SSC simultaneously. If you like the infinitely expandable idea of a sampler you could get an AkaiS5000 and use the AK.sys software for computer screen editing. Nocturnal

For what you are describing... You should check out SoftSamplecell Can be used in Pro Tools via DirectConnect, or as a stand alone Uses any wave or aiff as a sample and then you can process using Digi Plugs. Economical Sounds good.

i hear NI's "Absynth" is amazing.... and it has DirectConnect support. it might be too "wacky soundy" for you, but i hear nothing but praise for it. i use Reason. LOVE IT. but have had terrible crashing problems with it (USB problem i think). of course, no PT sync, but it sorta doesn't matter. peace, td.

It may not suit your needs exactly, but I can't recall my NI B4 ever crashing and it sounds great.

Koblo studio 9000? I have it, it works good, and contains "patches" of famous synths....

Reason sounds great, but the I/O, potential crashes, latency, etc. sounds wishy-washy. Koblo should work fine, but the Reason proponents say it blows away Koblo and the like. And then there is Sample Cell, a potentially expensive solution -- with purchasing samples, but very proven integration with PT. OK, looks like I need to do some serious research. You have given me a good start though, thank you very much! Curt
