Playback button broken?

Good afternoon everyone: I have a peculiar problem with Reaper on my 32 bit vista laptop: when I press the playback button (or the spacebar), nothing happens - the playback button on the left pane is depressed, but the timebar doesn't move. It is just frozen. On my 64 bit vista laptop it works ok. Anybody have any suggestions what is going on? Thanks! ps I run version 3.11 on both computers.

This happens to me every once in a while. Sometimes I can fix it by either minimizing/maximizing REAPER, or restarting the program. Other times I have to turn my Firepod off and back on again. Not sure what's causing it, but at least workaround is easy enough. I hope that helps a little. Hopefully others can chime on on this as I'm curious about it too.

I think this indicates that Reaper couldn't find the driver in the system (as opposed to "hogged by another application" which creates an error message), like it happens with external audio devices disconnecting themselves.

Hmm ... I checked the audio drivers in the Preferences menu, they are there allright (on this laptop, just the internal soundcard with DS drivers). I haven't run another application just before starting Reaper (other than internet browser). Any other thoughts?

Ah - waveout does work! Thanks Steindork. It's funny though that DS doesn't work (even with all other programs closed, including internet browser) - I can recall that that never happened. But whatever.
