Loving the way Reaper is Being Developed!

I think the Reaper development model is brilliant. The progression of changes, one step at a time, with ample time for testing of each change has helped make Reaper enjoyable and stable to use. Compare that with other companies which push push push for those major point releases...usually with major bugs...to keep the company afloat. Schwa has mentioned in a post that the Cockos "prime directive" is to keep the basic functionality constant, and just expand. They've done a great job walking that fine line of improvement vs. consistency. Kudos! Now, back to what I should be doing...using Reaper!

I hope that they wil give attention to the 'vertical metters' for TCP + horizontal gridlines for the arranger view.

I love it... Its like a box of chocolates you never know what you're going to get next :) My only criticism would be the rate at which features are left behind i.e. Things only seem to get developed as there happening and theres a reluctance to go back and refine features that are a couple of revisions old. I guess its much more exciting for both us and the devs to work on groundbreaking new innovation than tweak it up. Examples. The action menus have a lot of inconsistency The inline midi editor dosen't save its state on reloading a project and opens in an unusable way. Alot of functions/menues still don't l have toggle functions (Show/Hide docker ,io ,fx etc) Those that do have toggles don't all light up as they should. A selection of tracks indexes the last track making some custom actions tricky and some imposable. Custom Tools(Armed toolbuttons) haven't been given the functionality they deserve. Etc

Hey Hey! VERY interesting posts. I agree that there are a number of things which should be revisited...as mentioned in the posts above. As I work with Reaper, though, I'm continually impressed with it's stability and flexibility. I get really excited about getting my butt out of bed in the morning, sitting down at my rig, and getting to work. Reaper has saved me $$$ in shrink bills :)

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love reaper and the rate of development and most of all the functionality that gives the user the ability to achieve nearly anything :) I however am less impressed with the development plan . Example Groove quantize must be about the highest priority in the FR Brought to you by me (a carpenter) in perl a language I had never touched before in about a week and now brought to you by fingers . Midi controllable sends available in several csurf plugins ,High on the elevated FR again no interest by cockos. I'm guessing its like some kind of dynamic think tank in the devs plaza going wherever the wind takes them and I love them for it because who else would have put things like rescript and the API so high on the list which after all has impowed us users to be able and bring forth these creative solutions. Long live the Cockos Team :)

Jedstar, I agree with you...you're preaching to the choir here.

I spent a month outlining and detailing bugs in acid and presenting them to the support team. I eventually managed to persuade them to pass 3 over to the devs. 8 months later they released a patch, fixing NONE of the afore mentioned bugs. To go from that to this is utterly incredible

I'm not saying for sure but I think Reaper 4 will be in may, if so I think ALL the good stuff will be jammed into it. Just a guess based on some detective work ;)
